Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart offers a variety of tour times and options for all manner of visitors. Whether you are a local Houstonian of another faith who enjoys architectural beauty in spiritual structures, or if you are a visiting fellow Catholic from another parish, or even if you are a regular Parishioner of Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, our well-trained volunteer docent staff stands ready to offer their time and talent to bring you a tour experience that you will not soon forget.
Whether you choose a weekend or weekday, the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart staff offers the following tour times and availabilities to meet the needs of locals and out-of-town groups alike.
Tours are scheduled for groups on ten or more visitors by appointment. Pending the church schedule, tours are usually given Monday-Friday at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Please note that we do not schedule tours on First Fridays or the afternoon of First Thursdays. We ask that you contact Gwenne Buck, Facility Manager for the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at least four to six weeks in advance via
email to Gwenne Buck
What the Co-Cathedral Needs to Know: prior to your arrival, and in your reservation email, please state the number of your group, the nature of your tour (i.e., what sort of focus you would like from our docent) and do provide contact numbers for those who will serve as the primary point of contact for your touring group.
The Second Sunday Tour (3:30 p.m.)
Unless a specific High Holy Day occurs and the Co-Cathedral will be unable to accommodate a tour, the Second Sunday Tour is held, as its name implies, on the second Sunday of every month at 3:30 p.m. While this tour is open to all, it helps us schedule tour guides if you let us know in advance that you plan on attending. While an RSVP is not required for the Second Sunday Tour, it helps if you
email our Docent Staff so we can plan ahead for the number of required docents
Self-Guided Tours (Mon. - Sat., except during Mass Times)
Some visitors do prefer to tour on their own time and at their own pace. The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is open to those who wish to conduct a self-guided tour and enjoy the rich beauty of our parish at their own speed. While you may feel free to walk around and enjoy the architecture and beauty, we highly recommend that you obtain a Tour Book at the Cathedral Centre (located catty-corner of the Co-Cathedral one block north and east, with the entrance on Jefferson Street). The Cathedral Centre is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed for lunch from Noon to 1:00 p.m.
Please feel free to conduct your self-guided tour when the Co-Cathedral is open Mon. - Fri. 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. as well as Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Please note, we respectfully request that you do not conduct your self-guided tour during Mass Times. Daily Mass is held Mon. - Fri. at 7:00 a.m. & 12:10 p.m.; Saturday has Vigil Mass Times at 5:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
You are welcome to take pictures in the Co-Cathedral. We ask that you kindly refrain from taking pictures during Mass times or during other liturgies.
