In an extraordinarily rare two-day event, Christopher Jacobson, Duke University Chapel Organist, formerly Assistant Organist at Washington National Cathedral will perform the entire 257 organ works of J. S. Bach. Jacobson will play semi-continuously for 22 hours and has uniquely arranged the works into fourteen chapters, beginning with a cross section, “Glimpses of Genius,” which introduces Bach’s compositional workshop. Chapters then progress through the stages of Bach’s life and development as a musician, culminating in “Last Words,” Bach’s final utterance dictated from his deathbed in 1750 containing the haunting chorale, Vor deinen Thron tret’ ich (“Before thy throne I now appear”).
This marathon event is a first for Houston and is open to individuals, school groups, and work teams seeking a cultural outing during the work day!
