First Friday Organ Recital Series
Friday, October 4, 2019
Crista Miller will present a concert including works of J. S. Bach, Couperin, Locklair, and Vierne.
Date: Saturday, October 12, 2019
Time: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
The Co-Cathedral will host the American Guild of Organists Young Organists for an organ crawl of the Pasi & Associates Opus 19 Pipe Organ. This event is open to young persons interested in learning more about the organ. Space is limited and an rsvp is required. For more information, contact [email protected].
Material, demonstrations and discussions will be ongoing throughout the event so that even if you are not touring or playing there will be opportunities to learn. All ages are welcome to come and celebrate with us! The intent of this event is to expose younger musicians to the organ, thus first priority in playing and touring will be given to those parties.

Pop-up Event for Musicians! Join us for a special St. Cecilia’s Day Mass and blessing of musicians. Sing alongside your colleagues, and enjoy simply worshipping together in our beautiful Co-Cathedral space. Be restful and inspired before our busiest season. Singers, players, connoisseurs (and everyone) are all welcome.
As assembly of musicians, we will sing a polyphonic Mass Ordinary (Palestrina’s Missa Brevis), Gregorian chant, and some hymns to St. Cecilia and about music. If you’d like to sing the Ordinary, meet at 6:30 in the church, with a black folder and pencil. An RSVP with your voice type is appreciated, either here or to [email protected]. The Palestrina can be found here: http://www3.cpdl.org/wiki/images/e/e0/Ws-pal-mb1.pdf
Questions: Will this be a polished performance? A good rendition, but no, not perfect, because we’d rather not add rehearsals to your schedule. You can study ahead if you like. Will there be some things singable for the non-reader? Yes. Do I have to be a Catholic to come? No. What rite will this be? The Novus Ordo, in English. Will I be able to come hear an example of a Mass often heard in concert heard in its worship context? Yes.
Finally, while Church music is often saddled with having to juggle many non-musical concerns, on our patron saint’s feast day, we hope to gather as friends and to feel goodwill, without division. In the course of one Mass we aren’t exhibiting all of the kinds of music we do at CCSH; we are offering only one sampling of 1000 years of church music. This is an invitation to our friends in the city to relax before Advent from the usual, come together as family to sing together in a way that we can do well, and love our God together - without adding much to our packed calendars! Hope to see you there. Mail me (Crista Miller) with any other questions. [email protected]
